Paddington Green

Paddington, Sydney, NSW, Australia

“The new houses reinterpret the traditional vernacular of terraced housing, being arranged in rows with mirrored forms and capturing the repetitive nature of Paddington’s streetscapes and roofscapes.”

Design in Context: Guidelines for Infill Development in the Historic Context, Case Study 10: Paddington Green, NSW Heritage Office, 2005, pp 36-37

Paddington Green is a part of the large-scale, inner-city redevelopment of the former Royal Women’s Hospital and is located two kilometres east of Sydney’s CBD. The site comprises seven precincts of terrace houses and apartment buildings designed by three different architectural firms. Selected as the architects for Precincts Four and Five, Allen Jack+Cottier designed 21 terraces that face each other across a newly created road (Flinton Terrace) which bisects the site.

Allen Jack+Cottier’s design is a modern interpretation of the surrounding Victorian terraces. Each individual house includes three large bedrooms, north facing living areas, passive solar design and underground car parking.
