Cinema Paris

Moore Park, Sydney, NSW, Australia

The Entertainment Quarter, formerly known as Fox Studios, is a global drawcard for domestic and international film production in Sydney. It comprises professional film studios and offices used for making blockbuster films such as Star Wars and Superman Returns, as well as a retail and entertainment precinct. Allen Jack+Cottier designed several components of the development including retail and office spaces, the refurbishment of the Fox & Lion Tavern, and finally, the arthouse cinema, Cinema Paris.

The Cinema Paris building forms part of the retail and entertainment precinct. The development includes four arthouse cinemas and 2 099m2 of retail and office spaces. It was designed as a ‘composition of modern fragments’ to create an animated, pedestrian-scaled streetscape, capturing the character of a traditional nineteenth century ‘high street’ but using modernist aesthetics to exploit the theatrical possibilities of the billboard, cinema entrance and canopy.
