St Thomas’ Kindergarten
North Sydney, NSW, Australia
St Thomas’ Kindergarten dates from 1848 when it was built as a schoolhouse to accompany the original St Thomas’ Church. By mid 1999, the building was suffering from extreme damp and extensive termite activity and the childcare facilities were outdated and non-compliant.
The interior was redesigned to satisfy current building codes and standards, conserve various elements of original fabric, such as sandstone walls, and remove accretions affecting the interpretation of the interior. The design integrates a high standard of contemporary design with a high standard of conservation.
