Pit and Spectator Facilities Building

Mount Panorama, Bathurst, NSW, Australia

Mount Panorama, home to the famous Bathurst 1000 touring car race, is widely recognised as one of the most technically challenging motor racing circuits in the world. Allen Jack+Cottier’s redesign of the new pit and spectator facilities building at Mount Panorama was a dynamic project that demonstrates the open-minded and analytical methodology behind our approach to design.

We studied the best racetracks in Australia and around the world and worked at length to understand the requirements for the new building by interviewing over 200 people, including drivers, re-fuellers and mechanics, sponsors, spectators, television crews and the local community.

The new development provides a home for the main racing fleets and support categories, up to 240 cars, 40 B-double transporters, mechanics, marshals and officials, 2000 corporate guests, 50,000 spectators, thousands of cars, a hotel and medical centre, parking for 15 helicopters and skylanes for jets and aeronautical acrobats.
