Pavilions on the Park

St Leonards, Sydney, NSW, Australia

Surrounded by tree-lined streets and parkland, Pavilions on the Park is scaled appropriately to the smaller built form of suburbia. The lowest parts of the five-to-seven storey buildings are closest to the street, reducing the perceived scale. The use of bricks, sandstone and painted timber refer directly to the locality, and more generally to the ad hoc nature of a typical suburban street.

Landscaping is also an important feature of the development, ensuring privacy for residents, without compromising the visual relationship with an adjoining park. The ground slopes downwards from the buildings to the point of residential fencing, reducing the visual confrontation of a  barrier.

The planting of indigenous grasses, shrubs and trees at this street level also delineate private outdoors areas in a subtle manner. Stage 1 apartments were completed in the first half of 2009, experiencing strong sales and market appeal in a depressed market.
