The Hudson
Alexandria, Sydney, NSW, Australia
Allen Jack+Cottier transformed the former Alcatel Factory Site in Alexandria into one of the first new residential developments in South Sydney’s Green Square. The refurbishment of one building and the addition of three new buildings provides 272 units arranged around a central landscaped courtyard and retail village.
The Hudson masterplan reflects the public domain concerns of the Green Square masterplan. One of Allen Jack+Cottier’s main objectives was to create an attractive, safe living environment with a strong sense of place and community identity. An efficient pedestrian network, with good connectivity to surrounding residential areas, was essential to achieving this aim.
The complex provides a range of housing styles to meet the housing needs of a broad cross-section of the community. The one-, two- and three-bedroom dwellings take the form of two-storey, loft-style, split-level, courtyard and penthouse style apartments. The four buildings in the development have been separately crafted to give a sense of individuality to each – but their language and materials provide a common thread which gives the complex a coherent identity.
